Platinum Lapradei Bichir (Polypterus lapradei)
The Platinum Lapradei Bichir is a rare and eye-catching variation of the classic Lapradei bichir, prized for its pale white to cream-colored body and dragon-like appearance. Its long armored body, large pectoral fins, and prehistoric look make it one of the most impressive oddball fish available in the hobby.
Unlike standard Lapradei bichirs, the platinum variety displays reduced dark pigmentation, giving the fish a clean metallic or ivory appearance that stands out dramatically in darker aquariums. As they mature, many develop subtle cream, silver, or light gray tones across the body while still keeping the signature bichir shape and heavy scaling.
Lapradei bichirs are hardy predators that spend most of their time cruising the bottom of the aquarium or resting under driftwood and rockwork. They are peaceful toward fish too large to swallow and do well in larger predator or oddball setups.
